Industry Standards for Casters and Wheels

Caster Concepts is a leader in the design and manufacture of heavy-duty industrial casters , custom caster solutions, heavy-duty industrial wheels , and custom wheel solutions. With a long history of quality products and outstanding service, our industrial casters provide strength and stability in the most demanding applications imaginable.

Caster Concepts’ standard product line includes medium-duty casters (<450 kg), medium-heavy duty casters (450-750 kg), heavy-duty casters (750-2,250 kg), extra-heavy duty casters (2,500-10,000 kg), and super-heavy duty casters (>10,000 kg). Starting with the correct caster series is a key first step in ensuring a caster that will not only safely carry the designated load but also provide value over a significant lifespan.

Wheels for Casters

Once you have located a swivel section series that suits your application, the next step is to decide on the caster that will provide the required service. When searching for casters that can fit your application, the first consideration is that the caster must support the load for which it is designed. Next, the caster must be able to function in the environment that will prevail in the application, and finally, the bearing in the caster must also support the designated load and function effectively in the working environment.

Factors to consider when selecting a wheel:

  • Is the application manual or electric?
  • What is the speed of the application?
  • What are the conditions of the floor or track? Do you want to protect the floor or track?
  • What are the temperature ranges in the application?
  • Are there any chemicals or solvents present?
  • Is ergonomics a factor to consider in the application?

Caster Bearings

When considering bearings, you should consider:

  • Is the application manual or electric?
  • Will “burst charging” be present in the application?
  • Is ergonomics a factor to consider in the application?

Slice Options

Next, you should consider options that might be necessary when applying the slice. These options may be for operational efficiency or based on safety considerations. Taking a reasoned approach to the available options will be key to obtaining a slice that meets all your needs.

Surface finish is also a consideration. The most common finish is a coating, either zinc or gold dichromate. Caster Concepts also offers wet paint or powder coating for a superior appearance. Protect your investment with the right finish.
